Car crawls and encoder error

If you find that your evie will move at less than a crawl in either direction, and may come up with a enc (encoder) error then dont get too disheartened.
This is likely to be that the rotary encoder that tells the controller what speed the motor is turning at has a problem. The most likely problem is that the encoder disc has come loose.
This is under the steel cover on the non drive end of the motor, its easier if you remove the arch liner (move to one side) Take the cover off the motor end, and remove the two screws holding the black plastic cover. The optical encoder is held on with two cross head screws and they need to come out you can then slde out the encoder. The disk will probably just slide off the shaft. Check shaft and alloy hub are not worn. There are two very very small grubscrews, (1.3mm hex key) take them out and loctite them. Re assemble, but dont tighten the grub screws, put back the encoder and tighten fully. The encoder disk needs to be roughly in the middle of the gap in the encoder. Tighten the grubscrews. Refit cover and steel motor end cover re fit arch liner. Drink tea.
