Battery Vehicle Society

I have a Forklift motor in my Chinquechento and it gets hot fairly quickly. I have read references to bush timing needing to be advanced for EV use. I am trying to remember my motor theory from college all those years ago. Just have this nagging feeling it should actually be retarded. I suppose it could be how you define advance.

Does anyone know a good reference on how to adjust the timing and how much is required?
