Re: Battery charging regime
Hi, Thanks for the response. I have been working on this since I put up the posting. I have now come up with pretty much exactly what you have said. We have swapped our freezer this week and that has had a surprising effect on our power consumption. I thought it was using a lot of power. The last ti...

Re: Battery charging regime
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I am still thinking about how to get this system to work. I am wanting to get these Trojan T1275 batteries charged from a small stirling cycle engine. The battery pack might well be a 48v 300ah pack. If I were to charge these at 59.2v and 10amps that is 592W. If that is lef...

Battery charging regime
Hi All, I am just wondering about a charging regime for my batteries. I have the twelve Trojan T1275 batteries from EV_Dub as my battery bank. My plan is to wire these in three 'rows' of four batteries wired in series to get a 48v 450ah pack. The Trojan information says to charge them at 14.8v for a...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Hi All, I just got back from picking up the 12 Trojan T1275 batteries from EV_Dub. I will take them out the car tomorrow and get them in the shed. I am wanting to get the best from them so want to determine what their current state is and then come up with a charging and maintainance routine. We wil...

Hi Dave,
I did not understand the 'Upwards' and 'Downwards' parts.

Upwards= increasing speed
downwards= reducing speed[/quote]
Oh....
That is what I thought... but that just seemed too easy.

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
PWM might be an option but I am not sure how that works in practice as the ons/offs are at full current so I am not sure if you might get a lot of brush wear from thousands of full current ons/offs. I have not been able to find any info about it online. Another chap on DIY Electric car forum has th...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Just thinking about it.. it would be better to have a variable voltage and not PWM.
The single phase motor currently on the lathe has a 50hz vibration which is noisy and the vibration has a detremental effect on the machined finish and accuracy. It shakes things too much.

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Is there a better way of controlling the motor as a resistor is just a small electric fire and would be using electricity I could do without it using. I shall just refresh my memory to remind myself what layout the armature and field windings are in.... I know one configuration allows it to rev to ...

Re: Off grid battery / lighting / lathe etc
Picked up the motor for the lathe today: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d45/Robnruth/P1070858.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d45/Robnruth/P1070861.jpg It has four terminals. Three terminals at the brush end of the motor and one at the other end of the motor. The three at the brush end are ...
