Re: Ping Batteries in cold weather
No, the Elcat does not run on the Ping batteries alone. It mainly runs on lead-acid batteries (draws 300 A at full power which would wrech the Pings). The Ping batteries are in parallel to the lead-acids, though can be switched on or off. I use them mainly to boost the lead-acids when resting betwee...

Re: Ping Batteries in cold weather
You asked if Ping could put 2 20 Ah packs in parallel to make 40 Ah In fact he does make 40 Ah packs. To the best of my knowledge the max voltage he does is 48v. So you could order a 48v 40 Ah pack with a single BMS - if you wish you could specify a high rate BMS that would allow up to 100A discharg...

Re: range extending generator
Would a Lynch (or Agni) motor fit the bill? They are compact. If used as a generator it would supply a DC output. Voltage is determined by speed of rotation, so hopefully you could link it to an engine which could run at the appropriate speed. But maybe not a cheap option.

Re: Ping Batteries in cold weather
If you want to know how to connect Ping batteries in series, you can get a wiring diagram from http://www.PingBattery.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Briefly, you put a diode in parallel with each battery pack. These are connected to battery + and the output side of the BMS (not t...

Re: Super capacitors anyone?
Jeremy has explained the advantages - can deal with very high current flows in and out. But as you discharge it, the voltage drops linearly. Most motor controllers can only cope with a certain range of voltages. But total energy stored is very low. Someone tell me if the following calculation is wro...

Re: My new ping- lights on BMS not working
Did the popping sound happen when you connected the battery pack to the charger? It is normal to hear a single "pop" as you do this - there is a brief spike of current from the battery to the output capacitor of the charger, causing a spark as the connector plug pins approach the socket. I...

Re: Serial Lcd display options!!
How cheap do you call "ridiculously cheap"? I'm no good with electronic things, but have found that analogue moving-coil meters give a display that is readable at a glance while driving. Mine came from Howard Butler (http://www.hobut.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) Th...

Re: Ping Batteries in cold weather
regarding your charging lead. I have some Ping batteries, and like you the charger is connected to the pack by some 3-pin connectors. I can confrim that only 2 of the pins are used - the third pin is not connected to anything. You want to have the charger in the house and so you need a long charging...

Re: Body mods : has anyone done any?
I had a Rover Metro converted by Robert Fowler (aka AVT or "everything ev") He had made space for a rear battery box by cutting out some of the floor of the boot (this originally had a round well for the spare wheel, and he just cut a rectangular hole a bit bigger than the original well) I...

Re: Pushchair Pusher
It was me who had the ping battery with the faulty BMS. He sent me a new one (didn't ask for the faulty one back). My only problem was soldering the wire from the battery onto the new BMS board. The wire is thick and the chunk of solder too big for my little soldering iron to melt. But a local EV us...
