Motor Coupling

Postby mattcarr » Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:33 pm

My car has borken. The local Citroen garage have taken off the motor and confirmed that the coupler between the motor and gearbox shaft has lost it's teeth. I have spoken to ECCPLC and they tell me that they do not have any stock and are unable to get any - so I am a bit stumped at the moment.

Does anyone know where I can get one of these from at all?

Cheers

Matt

That's not very good product support. Where did ECCPLC get them from? Can you ask them, and then go direct?

Sorry to hear your bad news but i've got an idea , Try to get hold of an old clutch plate (fast fits plus Citroen/Peugeot/Toyota and gearbox/clutch specialists) take the center out of it and weld it to the motor half (after you've turned it down)
if you can't do it or there's no one local send it to me and i'll do it.
Why not give me a ring if your not sure 01761 463139.
Mart.

Yes I know that it is not good support. I understand that they are stepping back from the support of these cars. I have asked if they could give me the details of the supplier so I can go direct - but no response yet. Fingers crossed that they tell me.

Mart I have left a message on your number.

Cheers

Try www.evc.gg
They were the original developers of the conversion and they still do various Peugeot / citroen conversions. Im sure they will be able to help.

That coupler looks very much like soft mild steel or at least not much better.
You need to ask, why you have lost the spline (teeth).
If you manage to get a like for like replacement it will possibly do the same thing?
The centre of the original clutch has a fit for purpose hardened spline. All you need to do is adapt that clutch spline to a coupler as already mentioned.
There are many ways of doing this, any small engineering firm or someone with a lathe could make one up.
Google, (EV motor coupling) you will see many different types.
As mentioned welding is one option but it has to be balanced and true, also spline hardness can be affected.
Taper lock adaptor would be a good option.

Hi Grumpy - the evc number is no longer in use.

I managed to get a part done and the garage finally managed to get it changed over - they had to cut the old part off the motor. The car is back on the road and seems to be driving nicely again - hurrah.

All I have to do now is recover from the bill I got !!!!

Cheers

Thats great news.Out of interest who did you insure it with?
On yours does the power come on line as soon as you turn the ign key, or do you have to click tothe start position?
I cant get used to the lack of regen on the Smarts, so thats going to change later today, if the weather stays dry.

Hi Grumpy,

I just turn the key to the on position - not any further round as if starting a fuel car.

Will you be reprogramming the controller? Have they got the Curtis AC1268 controllers in them? If so I would be really interest to know how you hook up to program them.

Cheers

Its the 1236/38 ac controller.
You need either the Curtis 1311 hand held device or the Curtis 1314 PC software and adaptor. Its the latter that I have.
Just been ploughing through the settings to understand what they have done in terms of setting up the parameters. I now know which sections deal with the regen. If its stops raining for a while then I will do some changes. Unfortunately my Old laptop (I can only get it to run on XP non Win 7, they did say it wouldnt work ) has limited battery life so I have to run it from the mains so I cant go out and monitor whats going on, thats a really useful way of understanding whats going on.
Bought the software from Curtis, its Serial so I had to get a Serial to usb adaptor, and the second one I bought was a BElkin one and that works. They do do a USB version but is Hundreds of £ more.
