SURE (SUstainable and REnewable Energy in Wharfedale) is having another of its popular 'Energy Days' in Otley, West Yorkshire on Sunday July 12th 2009. This time with a transport theme.
What we'd like is to be able to inspire and enthuse people about using EVs as a viable and green means of getting about - and we're asking for your help..
If you live near Otley in West Yorkshire - or even if you don't - perhaps you'd like to come along for the day and join in the fun and the buzz of our exhibition / info stands / mini trade fair.
If the Battery Vehicle Society would like a stand then just let me know - I think that would be a great idea..
.. and if you have a contact at a low emissions vehicle supplier it would be great if you gave them a call or passed their contact details along to me ..
The website for the SURE community group is SURE-energy(dotorgdotuk) - you'll find lots of energy tips and you can read about our great projects.
Contact me if you'd like to come along or want more info..
Thanks
Andy

SURE Energy Day - Sunday 12th July 2009
We're having another SURE Energy Day to follow on from the very successful event in February. We know that several very good sales leads were generated from the day.
This next event will be a larger, longer affair and we can expect some good coverage in the local media.
It will have a transport theme in addition to the renewable energy stands.
As before the Energy Day will be held at the attractive Otley Courthouse venue -otleycourthouse(dotorgdotuk).
This has some great facilities including a cafe and a bar and a very sunny courtyard area.
It's centrally located in Otley and it very well known in the locality.
Here's the outline plan for the Energy Day:
- Trade stands from renewable energy system suppliers - with some working systems
Energy Savings Trust with an 'eco driving simulator' and a 'Smarter Driving' seminar
Some eco vehicles suppliers
LCC Fuelsavers info stand
A 'Grants Clinic'
WYPTE / Metro information stand
SURE Energy stand - SUstainable and REnewable Energy in Wharfedale
A rolling film screening of relevant films
some fun stuff for younger ppl ..
and its now been confirmed that one of the three new Leeds City Council biomethane fuelled refuse trucks will be on display at the exhibition..
We'll be publicising the event widely though our growing mailing list, on posters throughout the local area, with a large banner advert in town and through the local press - which is increasingly interested in the SURE Group and its successful projects.
How SURE is growing ..
SURE has recently set up an Energy Auditing team which is now offering free audits of community buildings in the locality. We see this as a way of inspiring people to look at renewable energy sources - and to tap into the available grants.
SURE and Otley Town Council have worked together to persuade Leeds City Council Libraries to pilot a loan scheme for Energy Monitors in Otley prior to rolling it out city wide. Leeds City Council Libraries have now asked for a presentation from SURE to help them look at energy efficiency measures.
SURE recently put on a well-attended screening of the Age of Stupid climate change film. This event had stalls from some of the climate change campaigning groups and a panel discussion afterwards.
SURE is working with a local corporate video company to create a video diary / documentary of a whole house eco-refurb project. This is being filmed in a 'Grand Designs' style and will be put up on YouTube and offered to local TV stations.
SURE was invited to exhibit at the Spring Conference of the Town and Parish Councils in the Leeds area. At that event at the Leeds Civic Hall an officer from the Leeds City Council Climate Change section enquired about SURE giving a talk to an assembly of Leeds City Council City Councillors.
Indeed, some of the City Councillors are already contacting SURE to help them find suitable projects for them to give away money to (5 figure sums)..
In addition Andy Walker is increasingly being asked to give talks and presentations to local groups..
.. and local schools are now inviting SURE to be part of their renewable energy planning.
Best regards,
Andy
